- Created the master digital artwork Bahrain: A Landscape of Faith and its dedicated Assouline and Guinness World Records publication versions
About the project
Khalid Al-Muharraqi was commissioned to create a fully digital illustrated artwork celebrating Bahrain’s long-standing culture of religious coexistence, commemorating the Kingdom’s international recognition for the density and diversity of its places of worship representing different religions. Artwork development began in 2025.
The artwork uses the outline of Bahrain in the visual language of an aged historical map, interpreted through contemporary digital illustration. Different faith communities and places of worship are represented through colour, density, texture and symbolic visual elements rather than literal geographic plotting: the objective was to communicate Bahrain’s diversity, coexistence and shared cultural identity as an artwork rather than a technical map.
The commission required the artwork to be adapted for two publication formats, Assouline and Guinness World Records — one master artwork with dedicated publication versions of each. The work formed part of the occasion subsequently presented to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Outcome
The artwork was produced as a major cultural illustration for publication and presentation, connected to Bahrain’s international recognition for religious coexistence.
