- Visualized and explained, in 3D renderings and an explanatory animation, how the proposed traffic-flow system designed by the project’s specialist consultants would operate
About the project
The King Fahd Causeway is the road connection between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, carrying both passenger and commercial traffic. At the time, heavy congestion, particularly from trailers and commercial traffic, could create very long delays. The proposed upgrade reorganized how traffic approached and passed through the immigration and inspection areas, with new branching lane arrangements and immigration processing and scanning areas intended to make movement through the crossing faster and more efficient.
Muharraqi Studios did not design the traffic-flow engineering: the operational and traffic-flow solution was developed by a specialist German company. Working with the Bahrain Economic Development Board and the project consultants, the studio created the 3D visualizations and the explanatory animation that showed how the proposed new system would operate.
The animation was a communication and approval tool rather than a film, explaining the process visually; there was no interactive system on this project. The Bahrain EDB used the presentation and animation in its communication with the Saudi government to explain the proposed upgrade and how the revised crossing would function.
Outcome
The presented concept was subsequently approved and implemented, and the upgraded arrangements became part of the functioning King Fahd Causeway crossing, intended to improve the speed and efficiency of passenger and commercial vehicle movement between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
